Never Eugenics

I lied.
The pop-ups enticed,
screaming of a better life on Mars.
Only six hundred would be chosen,
the best
and brightest
to give birth to humankind's first new world.

Needles.
Blood samples.
Urine samples.
Semen samples.
Wired into a treadmill, running until I collapsed.
Perfect specimens only
to give birth to the new race of Martians.

"All are welcome here!"
they said,
"We don't discriminate!"
Only six hundred chosen,
the fittest,
the healthiest
the perfect parents.
They said no gays allowed.

I lied.
